The birth of Lana…

There are literally no words to describe the amazing experience photographing a birth is.  To be able to tell the story, how important every single little detail is.  Birth photography is a relatively new service that a few photographers are now providing.  We see it as a natural extension to our maternity & newborn stories, we get to capture this babies entrance from the start – their loving family, the entrance to this world & then capturing the essential “babyness”.

They say there’s no do-overs on a wedding day – well imagine a birth… you miss the moment, you can never ever repeat it.  I was exceptionally lucky to be able to go into theatre for this c-section, a very last minute addition for which I, and the family, will be eternally grateful.

A little info… this is a birth post.  While all the images are black & white, there are still photos some people may find “graphic”.

awwww… that’s such a beautiful series of shots. I have to say it was very cathartic for me to see these, as I had a c-section and don’t think I have ever quite gotten over the disappointment of having to. But seeing these piccies – WOW you have captured the beauty in every moment, and reminded me that no matter which way your baby comes out – having a healthy baby is all that matters. Aren’t we blessed to be mumma’s! xo

Thank you for that amazing comment – you made me all teary! I think it’s important for all mums and mums to be realise that the most incredible thing is birthing a healthy baby, whichever way it happens :)

Wow, it amazes me that whenever Lana is away from Mum – screaming her head off. Being held by Mum or Dad – quiet and alert. Just says it all, doesn’t it?

Baby Lana

I had the absolute honour of shooting this gorgeous little girl’s entrance to this world (blog post to come…).  I love when we can tell the story of a baby’s arrival – from the maternity session celebrating the love the family has for their unborn little baby, through to the birth (which is an unbelievable experience and such treasure memories for the mum!) and then the newborn session.  By this time we feel like we know each family member so well, having spent so much time with them.

Baby Lana is super tiny – neither Kate or I had little babies so we love working with the wee ones.  And she cruised through her session, only waking for short periods just to let us know she was there:)

Oh hello little Princess Lana! Clover and I have really been enjoying these photos … especially when Lana is wearing her crown! Gorgeous, having just looked at the birth piccies, it’s very special to see these too. xo
